Weekly Round-Up
Monday 4th July 2022

It was a case of "So near, yet so far" this week, as Peter Howland took on Ashford's Mark Smith, vying for a place in the Quarter Finals of the Middlesex Unbadged Singles. With those quarter finals being played here at West Ealing a huge incentive, Peter made his opponent work very hard, but ultimately it was the Ashford man who progressed narrowly 21- 20.

West Ealing's run in the L&SC Shield came to an end against North Sheen. West Ealing's quartet of Stan Medhurst, Rob Green, John Carey and Paul Cater won 18-16 at home, but a loss away resulted in an overall scoreline of 28-39 and an exit for West Ealing.

Our second TVL match of the season, against Masonians, resulted in a second defeat and left West Ealing's defence of the title hanging by a thread.   At Masonians, a 17-13 victory for triple of Ejaz Faruqi, Lionel Singleton and Barry Wheeler helped secure the away points. However, at home a draw and a heavy defeat meant the points favoured Masonians 5-8½. This leaves us needing a good result in our final match against Mid Surrey and other scorelines to go our way.

The friendly match against Rosedale saw all three rinks victorious and an overall score of 77-35. Top honours go to the rink of Michael Entract, Peter Wickham, Kaz Ryan and Tony Sayer, who romped home 32-6.

In other competition results, Chris and Rob Ryan beat Mark Smith (Ashford) and his dad in the BE Family Pairs and are now in the area final.
In the Middlesex Fours, two West Ealing teams are through to the Quater Finals. The teams lead by Robin Innes and Paul Cater both battled through.
Sadly, West Ealing's interest in the Middlesex Pairs came to an end when Paul Cater bowed out at Ladygate and Robin Innes against Uxbridge.
