It is with sadness that we share news of the passing of former West Ealing member Val van Baars.

After spells at both Springfield and Brentham, Val joined West Ealing achieving success in both county, district and club competitions. Which in the case of the latter included back-to-back Club Championship wins in 2002 and 2003, and in 2007 becoming the first female winner of the Open Singles competition, beating Paul Cater in the final.

Before her bowls career, Val spent time in the Royal Navy, serving as a Wren.
